After more than 30 years in the insurance industry, Denny Mather is considered to be one of the most knowledgeable leaders in the field of group health insurance.  His considerable influence and sterling reputation for integrity and "doing the right thing" have afforded him the opportunity to define new ways of working with insurance companies and agents and to act as an advisor to organizations such as Marylanders for Responsible Healthcare Solutions; Baltimore Life Underwriters Association; the Heritage Foundation; Joint Legislative Committee - MD State Life & Health Underwriters; and the Governor of Maryland.

Denny began his career as an agent, was promoted to Vice President of Morgan Financial Group and in 1983 started his own company.  As President and CEO of The Mather Companies, Denny demonstrated his rare blend of vision and operational strengths by growing the Mather Companies from a staff of five focusing on group health insurance to an organization of more than 100 employees providing third party administration and distribution of employee benefits, products and services; human resource outsourcing; and voluntary benefits enrollment.

In April of 2000, two divisions of The Mather Companies were purchased by BenefitMall, a national group insurance distributor out of Dallas Fort Worth, Texas.  At the time of sale, these two divisions had annualized premium under management of nearly $400 million covering over 11,000 businesses for group health and ancillary coverage, generating approximately $11 million in revenue to The Mather Companies.  BenefitMall asked Denny to remain with the company and serve as Vice President of Sales for the Eastern Region for BenefitMall from April 2000 until July of 2003.

After completing his commitment to Benefitmall, Denny returned as President and CEO of the remaining divisions of The Mather Companies, for which he had maintained a majority ownership.  In March 2006, Denny sold these divisions to an HR outsourcing firm now trading as AgilityHR.  Denny was again asked to work with the acquiring company and provide assistance in strategic planning and developing key relationships and opportunities for AgilityHR's already successful business.   Upon completion of that commitment, Denny invested his formidable talents into the non-profit sector serving on eight boards as of this writing.

Denny graduated from Towson University in 1972.  He later received his Chartered Life Underwriter Degree from The American College in 1976, an MBA from the University of Baltimore in 1981, and Chartered Financial Consultant Degree from the American College in 1983.

A born and bred Marylander, Denny is committed to giving back to the community.  Toward that end, he has served as a coach to his sons' athletic teams; an elder in his church; President of the Towson University Foundation; a member of Towson University Board of Visitors; Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Baltimore Reads; a member of the Advisory Board to MSDE for Adult Education; a member of the Maryland Stadium Authority; formed The Cynthia and Dennis Mather Charitable Foundation; and more.

Denny is married to his wife of thirty years, Cindi, and has two grown sons who are pursuing careers in the arts.
