Thomas W. Murray is the retired publisher (and now consultant) of the Maryland and Washington, D.C. Beverage Journal, a monthly trade magazine now in its 68th year of publication. The magazine is part of The Beverage Network Publications (BNP), which is comprised of 33 member publications across the country that furnish pertinent business information to over 125,000 licensed beverage accounts on a monthly basis.
After graduating from Johns Hopkins in 1962, he spent two years with Standard Oil Company of Indiana and then returned to Baltimore to assume the publishers position with the Beverage Journal.
After 20 years at the Journal, he left to become a partner in a group that purchased a chain of weekly newspapers, and helped in their operation until the chain was sold five years later to another investment group.
He than became an equity partner in an environmental project development firm whose main effort was the construction of a $220 million recycling facility that converted mixed office waste paper into deinked market pulp. Although the original company has been merged into another entity, the original partners still have an equity position in the new entity that is in a joint venture with a major oil company for the development and licensing of an automobile bio-fuel.
